US President-elect Donald Trump has claimed what he calls a \u201cmagnificent victory\u201d over incumbent US Vice-President Kamala Harris in the US presidential election, eight years after his first term as president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As world leaders congratulate Trump on his win, Americans across the country are either mourning or celebrating the results \u2013 and some even appear to be considering leaving the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMove to New Zealand\u201d is trending on Google<\/a> Search, with Google<\/a> Trends data showing interest from US internet users spiked on election night, November 6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most of these searches came from US citizens living in Oregon on the West Coast, followed by those living in Vermont, Hawaii, Colorado and Montana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The top five most popular related search queries included, \u201cImmigrate to New Zealand\u201d, \u201cNew Zealand immigration\u201d, \u201cHow can I move to New Zealand\u201d, \u201cHow to move to Canada from US\u201d, and \u201cNew Zealand citizenship\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These were followed by searches like \u201cCan an American move to New Zealand\u201d and \u201cCost of living in New Zealand\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Google<\/a> Trends searches are ranked between 0 and 100, with 0 meaning not enough data and 100 indicating peak popularity. At 9.08pm on November 6, search interest in \u201cMove to New Zealand\u201d sat at 100.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, others have taken to social media to share their desire to leave the US following the election results, with one writing, \u201cAny good places you can recommend I move to in NZ? LOL\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One Kiwi wrote on social media platform X, \u201cFor the US homies. Feel free to move to NZ. I got spare beds, a warm place and plenty of help.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another shared a link to the New Zealand Immigration website, simply writing, \u201cJust leaving this here for the real ones\u201d, alongside an American flag emoji.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Search interest in moving from the US to Australia has also risen, according to the search engine \u2013 with most searches coming from the state of Maine, followed by Washington, Colorado and Oregon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Searchers queried, \u201cIs it hard to move to Australia\u201d, \u201cHow to immigrate to Australia\u201d, and \u201cMoving to Australia from USA\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s reminiscent of the 2020 US election, when many Americans took to Google following the first \u201cchaotic\u201d debate between then-candidate Joe Biden and Trump.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
